    HISTORY

    VNIRO was founded in 1933 on the basis of Central Research Institute of Fishery (TzNIRKh) and State Oceanographic Institute (GOIN).

    PARTNERS

    VNIRO maintaines close partnership and cooperation with basin research institutes of State Committee: TINRO-Center, KamchatNIRO, SakhNIRO, AtlantNIRO, PINRO, KaspNIRKh, AzNIRKh, as well as with institutes of Russian Academy of Sciences and other organizations.

    REGIONS of INTEREST

    VNIRO performs sea reserach expeditions in boundary and inner seas of Russia (White Sea, Barents Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Sea of Azov, Caspian Sea, Japan Sea, Bering Sea, Sea of Okhotsk) and in open regions of the World Ocean, including the antarctic and sub-antarctic zones of the Pacific and Atlantic.

    MAIN RESEARCH TASKS

      complex research of sea biological resources and recommendations for their usage and preservation;
      research of hydrobiont environment; ecosytem modelling and monitoring of natural resources and environmental situation in the fishing regions;
      development of different-term fishery forecasts in economical zone and internal seas of Russia, 200-mile zones of foreign countries and open regions of World Ocean;
      elaboration of system approach to the research of natural fenomena in the Ocean, their dependence on helio-cosmic factors, research of global and regional climatic changes for long-term forecasting of productivity in principal fishery regions;
      development of methods for recovering and inprovement of water environment of polluted fishery basins and their biological resources;
      development and inprovement of methods and facilities for usage of remote-sensing information for the benefits of fishery industry;
      development of environmentally safe technologies for complex utilization of hydrobionts.
